Air Dry Clay

Air Dry Clay has recently been hyped a lot. Of course, it is a cheap and locally available, and fun activity for all age groups. But the best part is that it hardens quickly and you can cherish your art forever. But it is often mistaken for Conventional clay. Today we will review it thoroughly and provide our audience with an authentic review.

Color Scheme:

Rating

Air-dry clay comes in a variety of gorgeous colors. Unlike the conventional mud color block, all the colors are premade. It also includes pastel colors such as Baby pink and light peach. It has 12 different colors including black, white, peach, light & dark pink, yellow, orange, leaf green, pastel green, red, purple, and blue.

However, you can create as many colors with it as you desire by mixing them together. They mix pretty smoothly and you can make lighter and dark color schemes within seconds. This is because they blend together in a seamless way.

Another great thing is that the colors don’t lose their brightness even after hardening. They remain the same as at the time they were molded.

Texture:

Rating

It has a more kinetic sand texture than clay. Clay is mostly hard and sturdy. Molding clay is tough and requires great strength. To smooth and shape the clay water is needed along. But for air dry clay the story is different. It’s nothing like clay. But maybe it hardens that’s why it is so-called Clay. The texture gives a fun feel. It is moist and very soft and light to work with.

This consistency of clay is so delicate and smooth that it is very difficult to hold any fine details. The clay is stretchy and flows at the same time. A slight finger impression can create a huge impact in disrupting your figure. The texture is fun to play with but not something you can create fine art with. It leaves your hands with a cooling feel like that from alcohol or sanitizer. Thus, it doesn’t feel dirty or sticky on the hand.

Scent:

Rating

The clay defiantly has some added scent. It is pleasant to the nose. Fruity and soft sweet smell. It is more like the smell of a kid’s play dough but in a good way.

Quantity:

Rating

It is available in 2 packagings.

  • First has a pack of 12 different colors and a single sharp tool.
  • Another is a pack of 24 clays. With each color repeating twice. And it has a set of 3 plastic tools.

The tool is good for the amount and it does work. They are kids’ tool, safe to work with, and has no severe sharp edges. The tools are made from plastic which is a safe alternative.

Drying Time:

Rating

It is called air-dry clay because it starts hardening quickly within minutes when in contact with air. Therefore each clay is packaged in an air-tight small zip lock bag, with no air entry. The packaging also comes in handy when you only need to use a piece of clay and store the rest. But as it dries within 10mins of working, it is likely that your piece will harden while you are still working on it. Thus, it has time constraints and you need to work quickly with it. As the outer layers will firm up leaving the inside still soft. And it doesn’t dry proportionately.

Workability:

Rating

As stated above, the clay texture is super soft. It doesn’t hold its shape and is difficult to pick up your model while working. Therefore, as for workability, it is better than any clay or playdough. Any slight touch will leave its mark on the clay. It is easy to begin your work, as no additional item such as water etc. is needed for softening. You can directly start molding once it’s out of the package. But the only issue is that it is made for play purposes only. Thus, good workability has some side effects too.

Durability:

Rating

After drying, the clay is fairly hard. It is durable unless someone willingly tries to break it. Because cutting it open is also easy. It doesn’t harden into a rock like typical clay. After drying the inside looks foamy. It has a lot of bubbles just like any thermopile material and remains super light.

Weight:

Rating

The clay is very lightweight and airy. Even after drying the clay has air bubbles trapped inside of, it and it’s not squishy but it’s a fun material. Also, the drying has no impact on the volume. It neither shrinks nor changes its shape but remains the same after drying.

Can you create art?

Rating

You can defiantly create bulky characters out of it example a teddy bear or animals etc. But it is not ideal for making dough flowers or any embellishments. Unlike clay, it cannot hold any details. And is not even firm. The pieces are delicate and need to be handled carefully. One benefit is that it doesn’t need glue to stick different parts together. It has self-sticking properties and simply placing your pieces in contact is enough for it to stick together.

Is it messy?

Rating

Unlike the conventional mud clay that needs water to smooth and even has to be played with to make it workable. Air-dry clay is the least messy. The texture doesn’t feel dirty on the skin. It requires no other ingredients with it. And comes ready to use and dries under the contact of air. It will leave your workplace and hands clean.

Does it Shrink after drying?

Rating

No airdry clay holds its shape. It has no change in volume whatsoever.

Does it have good playability:

Rating

For the price, it is a fun activity for children and individuals of any age group. It can keep the person engaged for long hours. And is a good alternative for reducing your child’s Screen time. Also as scientifically proven playing with sand or dough, or clay helps hand movements in growing age.

Price:

Rating

The price of the product is between the range of 150-200 Rupees. It is fair for the quantity and playability it offers. You can also contact the vendors for a discount when purchasing in bulk. It has great prospects for sellers. Due to the increase in inflation, the price range is a good alternative choice for children’s toys. The product is liked by a wide group of audience.

Is it worth investing in Air Dry Clay for Sellers?

Yes, it is a trending product just like the Push Pop Bubble Squeeze or Fidget Spinner Toy. This trend will last. It is a good toy for kids because of its ability to dry and harden. As play doughs are likely engaging, but your models can’t be saved as it does not harden.
